If you’re wondering why these idiots decided to call themselves Galaxie 500, it’s because one of their friends had a Ford. The Ford Galaxie was a 4-door sedan in production in the United States from 1958 to 1974. Some versions of the vehicle were branded the Galaxie 500 to denote their luxury status. Ford Europe also released the Galaxy in 1996, but it’s a stupid looking car and has nothing to do with this band. Don’t ask me how I know this, but the reason Galaxie 500 actually broke up is because they were tired of having a shitty name.
Luckily for us, Galaxie 500 is better at making awesome records than coming up with band names that don’t totally suck. On Fire is a jangly, lo-fi dream pop masterpiece.
